How to use Kaunas card

All types of electronic tickets (including one calendar month ticket) must be tagged on by placing the card on the card reader every time you start your journey or change the route.

    • Board the bus/trolleybus through the front door;
    • Place the card on the ticket reader next to the driver;
    • When tagging on the e-ticket WATCH the screen and check the amount of cash being charged. The following information will be displayed:
    • MOKĖTA X,XX EUR                                                 PAID X,XX EURLIKO X,XX EUR                                                         BALANCE XX,XX EUR

    • You can check your balance any time after validation free of charge:
      • Place the card onto the ticket reader ;
      • On the screen you will see the note:
      • MOKĖTA UŽ 1 BIL                                          PAID FOR 1 TICKETLIKO X,XX EUR                                              BALANCE XX,XX EUR

    If you do not have enough money on your card to pay for a single ticket, you will see the following message on the screen:

    NEPAKANKAMAS LIKUTIS – INSUFFICIENT BALANCE

    If there are periodic electronic tickets on card that are not activated, single electronic tickets are unavailable.

    Make sure to place your card onto the area marked with the card symbol.

     

  • If you are using e-tickets, you may pay for another passenger(s). You need to validate a separate e-ticket for each passenger as follows:

    • On the ticket reader, press the button 1;
    • You will see MOKĖJIMAS UŽ BILIETĄ (PAYMENT FOR A TICKET) on the screen;

    • Place your card on the reader;
    • The reader will beep once and you will see MOKĖTA: X,XX EUR (PAID X,XX EUR) on the screen. The card balance will be displayed on the bottom line on the screen.

    If traveling this way, other passengers are always charged full price and they cannot change a bus/trolleybus free of charge within 30 minutes from the initial boarding.

  • Multiple day electronic passes must be activated on board:

    • Hold the card further from the validator;
    • Press button 2 on the activator.

    When you see words BILIETO AKTYVAVIMAS (PASS ACTVATION) on the screen, place your card on the area marked with the card symbol.

    The message REGISTRUOJAMAS IKI (REGISTERED UNTIL) 20XX-MM-DD will appear indicating the date of your ticket’s validity.

    Electronic tickets that are not valid on Saturday and Sunday can be activated only on workdays (Mon-Fri).

    When activating this type of ticket on Saturday or Sunday, note on the screen appears NEGALIMA AKTYV. TERMIN. BIL – CANNOT ACTIVATE A PERIODIC TICKET and the ticket will not be activated.

    Please validate your e-ticket by placing the card on the yellow card reader every time you start your journey or change the route.

  • You can check your card‘s balance as follows:

    • Place your card on the card reader where you see the card symbol.
    • The screen will display the following information:

    MOKĖTA X,XX EUR                                                                       PAID XX,XX EUR

    LIKO X,XX EUR                                                                               BALANCE XX,XX EUR

    You can check your balance free of charge.

    • If there is not enough money on the card to pay for a single ticket, the screen will show the note NEPAKANKAMAS LIKUTIS – INSUFFICIENT BALANCE.

    In this case, to continue the travel, you should buy a single paper ticket from the driver.

  • When using single electronic tickets, you can change the bus/trolleybus within 30 min without any additional charge.

    • Board the bus and tag on the ticket once again by touching the card on the card reader;
    • First line on the screen shows MOKĖTA 0,00 EUR                                                                       PAID 0,00 EUR LIKO X,XX EUR                                                                               BALANCE XX,XX EUR

    You can change the bus free of charge only once after the initial boarding.

     

  • You can check your ticket’s validity as follows:

    • Place your card on the card reader where you see the card symbol;
    • The screen will display the following information:

    REGISTRUOJAMAS IKI 20XX-MM-DD                                         REGISTERED UNTIL 20XX-MM-DD

    • If there are no valid e-tickets on the card, the screen will show the note NEPAKANKAMAS LIKUTIS – INSUFFICIENT BALANCE.

    In this case, to continue the travel, you should buy a single paper ticket from the driver.

  • If you top up your card using our online self-service, you must transfer the data onto the card using the card reader within 72 hours, but no earlier than 30 minutes after the purchase. To transfer the data onto the card:

    • After boarding the bus/trolleybus, head to the card reader located at the rear of the vehicle. It is different from the other card readers as there is a slot on the right side to put your card in;
    • Keep the card off the card reader (approx. 20 cm away);
    • Press button No. 3 twice;
    • When the note KORTELĖS PAPILDYMAS appears on the screen, put the card into the slot on the right side of ticket reader and wait until the screen shows the note ATLIKTA;

    Take out the card and, depending on what you have purchased, either tag on a single e-ticket or activate a periodic e-ticket.
