Discounts

Pupils, students, disabled people, elderly aged 70 and over, children up to age 7 and some other persons are entitled to travel by public transport in Kaunas with discounts.

If you have the right to a discounts:

  • When topping up the card, refer to the discount you have. There is no option to select the discount on the card reader;
  • If needed, provide the document proving your right to the discount for passenger control.
  • In case of the change of your discount, top up the card with any amount of cash and indicate the new discount. The whole balance then change to the correct discount.

Examples of documents (certificates) providing the right to the discounts.

  • Full-time course students of universities and vocational schools, and pupils of general education schools and vocational training establishments have the right to a transport preference:

    • 80% discount for periodic monthly and activated ticket;
    • 50% discount fot single paper and electronic tickets.

     

  • 80% discount is applied to:

    • Disabled people whose working capacity is up to 25%;
    • people suffering from chronic diseases prescribed in the list of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania for the treatment of continuous hemodialysis;
    • Accompanying people (one accompanying person per disabled person).

    50% discount is applied to:

    • Disabled people whose working capacity is from 30% to 55%.

    No discounts apply for disabled people with a working capacity from 60% to 100%.

  • 50% discount is applied to:

    • people aged 70 and over;

    80% discount is applied to:

    • people aged 80 and over;

    99% discount is applied to:

    Citizens who have declared their place of residence in Kaunas city for more than 1 year continuously:

    • aged 80 and over;
    • Defenders of the Independence of the Republic of Lithuania who have suffered of events of 11-13 January 1991 and aggression of the Soviet Union;
    • Participants of resistance of 1940-1990 occupancy;
    • Victims of 1939-1990 occupations: political prisoners, deportees and persons equated with them, repressed, displaced persons and persons who are victims of occupations, at the retirement age;
    • Retirement age persons receiving a social assistance pension* from Social Assistance Department;
    • * for the issue of a (social) pension recipient (pensioner) certificate apply to the Social Assistance Department of Kaunas city municipality.
  • Every commuter can bring 2 children up to age 7 (without occupying separate seat) free of charge.

    A commuter carrying several children under the age of 7 is entitled to a third and other children under the age of 7 to obtain single tickets with 50% discount.

    50% discount is available for children aged 7 to 8 years old.

  • 1 095 days (hereinafter – three year) personal benefit electronic ticket (hereinafter – benefit ticket) grants 1 095 days for unlimited use of Kaunas city buses and trolleybuses with 99 per cent (822 EUR) discount.

    Right to get this ticket is obtained by citizens who have declared their place of residence in Kaunas for more than 1 year continuously:

    • aged 80 and over
    • Defenders of the Independence of the Republic of Lithuania who have suffered of events of 11-13 January 1991 and aggression of the Soviet Union
    • Participants of resistance of 1940-1990 occupancy
    • Victims of 1939-1990 occupations: political prisoners, deportees and persons equated with them, repressed, displaced persons and persons who are victims of occupations, at the retirement age;

    Where to get this ticket?

    Only in the customer service centerMano Kaunas” (address: Statybininkų g. 3, Kaunas);

    • Mon – Fri, 8 am – 6 pm (no lunch break, work time is one hour shorter on the eve of a holiday).

    Bus line 24 carries to “Mano Kaunas” on route “Kauno Pilis-Šiaurės Pr.”. Get off the bus at the stop Klientų aptarnavimo centras Mano Kaunas.

    Preferential tickets CAN NOT be purchased at other ticketing locations marked with Kaunas public transport sign.

    How to acquire this ticket?

    • Go to the customer service center Mano Kaunas”;
    • It is necessary to bring valid passport or personal identification card;
    • If the preference does not depend on age, submit the valid original of the certificate of the deportee, the victim, the occupation participant or the social assistance pension recipient;
    • Pay 3 EUR;
    • If the address of your place of residence has not changed, you will not need to re-submit the certificate of the declared place of residence.

    A person who wish to acquire a three year ticket (both for the first time and repeatedly after 3 years) MUST PRESENT HIMSELF. If an authorized person arrives, he must submit an original and valid notary authorization document.

    Validity of card and ticket

    Validity of a card topped up with e-tickets is indicated on the card.

    The ticket is valid for 1 095 days inclusive from the moment of its acquisition.

    How to check the validity of e-ticket?

    • Upon boarding the bus/trolleybus, place the card TO ANY card reader marked with the symbol of the card;
    • Hold the card until the note REGISTRUOTAS IKI 201X-MM-DD appears on the screen. The date indicates until when your ticket is valid.

    If you see the note NEPAKANKAMAS LIKUTIS on the screen of the card reader, your preferential ticket has already expired. To continue your journey, you must:

    • Purchase a single paper ticket;
    • Go to the customer service center “Mano Kaunas”;
    • Present a valid passport or an identity card;
    • If the preference does not depend on age, submit the valid original of the certificate of the deportee, the victim, the occupation participant or the social assistance pension recipient;
    • If the address of your place of residence has not changed, you will not need to re-submit the certificate of the declared place of residence;
    • Pay 3 EUR.

    If you cannot check the validity of the ticket in transit, call the phone number 8 800 20000, tell your card number (can found under the bar code – 9024678XXXXX) – you will find out the validity date of the ticket.

    Card top up

    If you already use a preferential ticket, you can top up the card with the NEW ticket:

    • No earlier than the expiration date;
    • Any time after the ticket expires.

    In case of losing, breaking or otherwise damaging the card:

    • Go to the service center Mano Kaunas”;
    • Present a valid passport or an identity card;
    • Fill in the application;
    • Pay a new card issuance fee of 1.50 EUR.

    Date of expiration of the ticket will remain the same.

    Tagging on the ticket

    POSSESION of the preferential ticket does not mean that you paid for travel.

    The card with the ticket must be placed to the card reader in transport and tagged on EVERY TIME after entering via front bus door.

    Ticket inspector may impose a fine if you have not tagged on, falsely tagged on the ticket, ran a blocked card or used another person’s preferential ticket.

  • On March 20, 2018, the Kaunas City Council granted 822 Eur discount of public transport privilege to children from 7 to 18 years old from large families who declared their place of residence in Kaunas city.  A 1095 calendar day ticket for buses and trolleybuses costs 3 EUR. It is activated at the moment of sale.

    For children of large families* who declared their place of residence in Kaunas city, specially designed registered cards of Kaunas city are issued, which are topped up with Children’s ticket **. Cards are issued and charged only at the customer service center “Mano Kaunas” (address Statybininkų g. 3, entrance from S. Žukausko g.).

    Only the authorized representatives of the child entitled to the privilege can submit an application for the purchase of a child’s card: parents, adoptive parents. Legal representatives of the child must submit:

    • identity card or passport;
    • personal identification document (identity card, passport or birth certificate) of the child (children);
    • A high-quality documentary photograph of a child (3 × 4 cm, not older than three months; photo retaken multiple times is not suitable).

    Applications can be submitted:

    • by filling out the form on the website https://www.kvt.lt/duomenu-pateikimas/
    • or by going directly to the customer service center Mano Kaunas (hereinafter referred to as “Mano Kaunas”).

    The legal representative of the child, together with the application, must provide the child’s personal data and consent to its processing.

    The data submitted will be checked for compliance with the preferential requirements. Having established that the data is correct, the registered Kaunas Card will be produced within 20 days from the day of submission of the application and delivered to the center Mano Kaunas, where it will have to be withdrawn by the legal representative of the child, having submitted their and their child’s identity documents (identity card, passport or birth certificate) . For the first time, the card is issued free of charge. After paying for the Children’s ticket 3 euros, the employees of the center will supplement the card with the Children’s ticket and will immediately activate it.

    If the card has been manufactured earlier or for some reason, the card production will be prolonged, an employee of Mano Kaunas will contact the legal representative of the child and will inform when it is possible to arrive for the card withdrawal.

    A child’s ticket is valid for 1 095 calendar days (3 years) from the moment of activation, if provided conditions are not violated. Privilege right is lost:

    • declaring a place of residence other than in Kaunas city;
    • when one child of the large family reaches the age of 18;
    • when no more than 3 under-aged children are raised in the family.

    When right to the benefit is lost, tickets of all family children are blocked.

    * A large family – spouses who raise 3 or more children (adopted) under the age of 18 years, as well as a married person with whom 3 or more children are left to live by marriage, or one of their parents and 3 and more children under the age of 18.

    ** Child ticket – fixed-term electronic 1095 calendar days ticket for city buses and trolleybuses on all days with 822 Eur discount. The ticket is activated at the time of sale.
